Dr. Jaime Ponce de Leon is a distinguished Certified Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon with over 25+ years of surgical experience, currently practicing in Tijuana, Mexico. He earned his Medical Doctor Degree in 1991 from Saint Nicholas University in the Mexican State of Hidalgo, specializing in General Surgery. Following this, he completed a four-year residency at Tijuana’s General Hospital, obtaining his specialty as a gastroenterologist surgeon. By 1995, Dr. Ponce was certified in laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique known for its efficacy in the abdominal and pelvic areas, offering the benefit of minimal scarring and typically allowing patients to return home the next day.
In 1997, he received his certification from the Mexican Association of Endoscopic Surgery. Dr. Ponce has since been active both as a student and an instructor in numerous courses, garnering respect from both peers and patients alike. His expertise and refined surgical techniques have made him a sought-after speaker at surgical conferences, and he is recognized as one of the top bariatric surgeons in northwestern Mexico.
Dr. Ponce pioneered laparoscopic bariatric surgery in Mexico, starting in 1998 when he was certified by the Mexican Association of General Surgeons. He has since enhanced his skills with advanced courses in the United States and France, and was authorized to perform Obesity Surgery including Gastric Bypass and Lap-Band procedures by the Mexican Society of Obesity Surgeons in 2004, following formal training and authorization from Bio Centrics Corporation in 2001. Dr. Ponce serves as Chief Surgeon at various Baja Hospitals and for Mexico Extreme Makeover. Averaging 4 to 6 surgeries daily, Dr. Ponce maintains an impressive success rate.
